I have no argument with those who see in organized religion a template or an imperative to live life according to a prescribed set of beliefs. Just give others the room, within the laws of civil society, to believe or not believe whatever they like.

About This Quote

This quote is one of the most important ones because it was said by one of the greatest figures in history. Abraham Lincoln spoke this at a time when the United States was breaking away from its past and forming a new identity for itself. It was a time when religion was often used to justify different viewpoints, but Lincoln took an opposing viewpoint. He believed that religious people should have the right to believe what they want, but that they should also have the opportunity to live their lives according to their own beliefs if they so choose.
